How a Customer Became a Successful Exoquad Dealer on Iceland

Jón Gunnar Benjamínsson spent 15 years running an accessible tourism company in Iceland, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. After selling it last summer, he was looking for something new when he found (in his own words) "this beast—Exoquad—on social media."

"You lose a lot when you lose your legs," Jón Gunnar says about his 2007 spinal cord injury. "Since my accident, it has always been a lot about reclaiming some of the things that I have lost."

But Jón Gunnar saw more than just a way to reclaim adventures and independence. With his background from the accessible tourism industry and a deep knowledge of Iceland's incredible landscapes, he saw a perfect match! A match that could help an entire community get back outdoors again.

From Vision to Reality: The Perfect Match

Iceland's dramatic landscape—volcanoes, geysers, and rugged terrain—offers incredible opportunities, but also obvious and very real difficulties for people with mobility impairments to enter and enjoy freely. Jón Gunnar knew all about those challenges from his years in the accessible travel industry.

Upon his initial encounter with the Exoquad, he immediately recognized its perfect synergy with Iceland's distinctive landscape of mountains, volcanoes, and geysers. Not only would the vehicle be able to navigate Iceland's challenging terrain. It would also be gentle towards its unique and delicate landscape.

Driven by industry insight and personal ambition, he saw the Exoquad's potential. Recognizing the ideal moment for a new venture, he contacted Exotek. Both parties quickly realized the partnership's mutual benefits.

The Power of Authentic Advocacy

What happened next shows the power of genuine passion. "When I came here last summer to test the Exoquad outside Oslo with Matias and Adrian, I posted about it on Facebook, and it gained traction fast—created quite a buzz about this unit. I had people waiting in line." When his demo units arrived, he was 'basically always online promoting it and doing demo tours."

The results? "Honestly, I'm surprised how many people have already confirmed orders—but very happy about it and optimistic for the future!"

It wasn't just marketing—it was real excitement from someone who'd discovered something that changed his life. And that authenticity connected.

Building Success Through Personal Connection

What makes Jón Gunnar different isn't just his business background—it's his approach. Instead of talking technical specs, he shares what the Exoquad actually means.

Since my accident, I've been about reclaiming lost things; everyone knows how much you lose when you lose your legs—but with something like this, I've reclaimed so much," he explains. "Even compared to ATVs, this lets me get back to my favorite places more comfortably, and with even greater accessibility."

His strategy is simple: get people into the Exoquad and let them experience it. "One thing is seeing it on social media or YouTube—but once people get inside and see what it can do, there usually is no going back."

The results speak for themselves. The Exotek team has been "blown away” by how Jón Gunnar could sell so many Exoquads in such a short time. Especially considering he operates in a country with only 300,000 inhabitants!"

Expanding Horizons: From Iceland to the Faroe Islands

Jón Gunnar's success didn't stop at Iceland. His Faroe Islands trip shows how passion opens unexpected doors.

"Long story short: I brought one demo unit with me, but ended up leaving it there because someone from the Faroes was adamant about buying it! So now we're making another one for me."

He managed several demos, spoke with Faroese TV, and got amazing footage even with little time. "Both Iceland and the Faroe Islands are perfect for accessible adventure travel." Jón Gunnar says. Hopefully, the future for Accessible adventure travel will be expanded thanks to the Exoquads' outstanding off-road capabilities!

More Than Business: Rebuilding Lives and Communities

What makes Jón Gunnar's story compelling isn't just the business success—it's what the Exoquad means for real life. "It's not just personal—it's inclusion for family too," he explains. "I confidently say Exoquad matters just as much for my wife, kids, family, and friends as it does for me."

Sigurd gives a concrete example that many families will recognize: "Before getting my Exoquad, people stopped asking me along because they thought 'Sigurd can't make it up that mountain.' But now they ask again because they know I can go almost anywhere!"

Jón Gunnar knows this feeling well. Simple moments that were once impossible are now routine: "I went down to the coastline with my seven-year-old Camila and my wife—the beach is impossible in a wheelchair—even with two helpers you just sink like a beached whale—but now with these tires you float across sand nicely."

These aren't just customer testimonials—they're real-life stories of families reunited with shared adventures, children who can explore nature with their parents again, and spouses who can return to the outdoor activities they once enjoyed together.

The Ripple Effect of Passionate Advocacy

Sigurd describes Jón Gunnar as "kind of a one-man show as a dealer." But when customers meet someone who really understands their challenges—because he's faced them too—it makes all the difference.

"Things have happened quickly; it's quite fascinating," Jón Gunnar says about his rapid success.

A Growing Global Community

Jón Gunnar's journey from travel agency owner to successful Exoquad dealer shows what's possible when genuine passion meets the right opportunity. "I'm thrilled about it!" he says, and that enthusiasm is contagious.

His story represents something bigger happening in the Exoquad community worldwide. People who truly understand what this technology means are driving growth across the globe. What started as one man looking for "something new" is now changing how people with mobility challenges get outdoors.

"I look forward to taking this quad back to places I've missed for 18 years now." And he's making sure others can do the same.
